Projects Under Consideration

Four Corners Landscaping Project

The Swain County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) is developing plans to enhance the downtown square in Bryson City, also known as the Four Corners Landscaping Project. Certain parcels of land at the four corners of Main Street and Everett Street that are owned by Swain County are being considered for this project. The goal is to create more enhancing public spaces for the local community, the veterans, and visitors to be able to use and enjoy.

The project is conceptual and was initially discussed by the TDA in 2021. The TDA authorized its beautification committee with the task of creating conceptual plans with the help of an architectural firm. Siteworks Studios of Asheville, NC was selected after the TDA reviewed responses from architectural firms via a formal Request for Proposal process.

The plans are undergoing the process of public comment which includes a presentation by Siteworks Studios. Public comment sessions are:

  • Monday, May 23, 2022 at 12:00 noon
  • Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 5:00 PM.

Both public hearings will take place at the Swain County Administration Building, 50 Main Street, Bryson City, NC 28713 in the third floor auditorium.

Based on public feedback, the architectural firm will complete a revised set of drawings, and will present at a future date TBD.

The final plans will then be submitted to the Swain County Board of Commissioners for approval, at a regularly published meeting.
