Privacy Policy

The Swain County Tourism Development Authority is committed to protecting your online privacy. We care deeply about protecting the personal information of our website visitors. Our goal is to be as transparent and forthright as possible about the data we collect, with whom we share this data, and how this data is used.

Personally Identifiable Information

The Swain County Tourism Development Authority gathers personally identifiable information (name, email address, etc.) and/or demographic data (zip code, interests, etc.) that you submit when you: 1) contact us, 2) complete a survey or application, 3) register for a promotion, contest or sweepstakes, 4) sign-up for our mailing list and/or request a visitor guide, or 5) send us an email. This information may be gathered through both online and offline means. We may use this information to compile demographic statistics about our users, and to display information for you that matches your interests and profile.

When you authorize us to (a) mail you a Bryson City Visitor Guide and/or (b) add your email address to our eNewsletter mailing list, the personal information you provide will not be shared with any other party unless you also request additional information from local businesses. Please understand that our privacy assurances do not extend to those individual businesses.

Email Communications

To help us make email more useful and interesting, we often receive a confirmation when you open ours, if your computer supports such capabilities. We also compare our user lists to lists received from other companies, in an effort to avoid sending unnecessary messages to you. If you do not want to receive email or other mail from us, please make a request (see below).

If you sign up for our periodic eNewsletters, your email address is retained and periodic eNewsletters are sent until the email address proves to be undeliverable due to successive bounces, OR until you unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of each eNewsletter.

With the exception of the eNewsletter mailing list, all your personal information is permanently deleted once the Visitor Guide is mailed and any other information requests are fulfilled.

Web Traffic Data

The Swain County Tourism Development Authority servers gather industry-standard information (domain, IP address, referrer, browser used, etc.) via web server traffic logs. From time-to-time, the Swain County Tourism Development Authority will analyze these logs and data to better understand the traffic patterns of our site visitors and how our site is being used, which helps us upgrade it appropriately for increased ease-of-use and functionality.

GDPR compliance – because the Swain County Tourism Development Authority lacks the data management resources to fully comply with GDPR guidelines, (a) we will not add European addresses to our database and (b) we will not knowingly add European residents’ email addresses to our database.

Cookies

Cookies are small bits of alphanumeric information, placed and stored in your browser by our website. Swain County Tourism Development Authority uses cookies to calculate unique visitor sessions, and to keep a continuous session state when you visit.
