There's nothing quite as relaxing as visiting Bryson City for an outdoor adventure getaway. Summer and fall are our busiest times of the year for visitors, but If you're a fan of taking a vacation during when the trails and attractions are less crowded, read on for our recommendations.

Visit During The Warmer Months

Black Balsam Hiking Trail

If you’re a fan of warm weather and fewer crowds, consider a Bryson City getaway during May or September. These warmer months are fantastic for whitewater rafting and ziplining, as well as many other outdoor activities. Skip fighting the busy crowds, and book excursions easily. Don’t forget to add visiting the charming downtown of Bryson City to your list. With minimal crowds, you can get in and out of shops and restaurants with ease and enjoy the peaceful streets of our little mountain town. Insider tip: If you are visiting in early spring or late fall, some whitewater rafting outfitters will take advanced reservations  but they have to be called in advance. Carolina Bound Adventures will also let you enjoy kayaking and paddleboarding on Fontana Lake if you call ahead.

Visit During The Cooler Months

Winter Yurts

If you love visiting the mountains in the winter, getting cozy by a fire, and enjoying time with no hustle and bustle, then the cooler months of January and February are perfect for you! Although it may be a bit too cold for ziplining and whitewater rafting, enjoy a cozy cabin weekend roasting marshmallows by the fire and enjoying quality time with friends, family, and loved ones. Explore Bryson City’s charming downtown and book a scenic train ride on the Tuckasegee River excursion. Please note, that the train runs on select dates.  In February, you can book a first-class wine and dine railroad experience called Uncorked for an unforgettable Valentine’s Day, romantic weekend getaway, or just a fun activity to do with friends. While Bryson City slows down in January and February, there is still plenty to do, and it is perfect for those looking for a sweet and quiet escape.
