Fishing on the Tuckasegee River

The Tuckasegee River offers a variety of fishing opportunities, from casting from the riverbanks to wading or using a boat. The Delayed Harvest Program ensures that there is a constant stock of fish for anglers to catch, making it a popular destination.

The “Tuck” Tuckasegee is home to a large variety of fish, Brown and Rainbow trout are the most popular catches. Other species in the river include Smallmouth Bass, Kentucky Spotted Bass, Walleye, Steelhead Trout, Muskie, Crappie Bluegill, Yellow Perch, White Bass, and Catfish. This wide diversity in fish allows anglers to target different fish based on preference or try their luck at catching something new.

This River flows 60 miles through Western North Carolina before flowing into Fontana Lake and 2.2 miles of that runs right through downtown Bryson City. Access in these 2.2 miles is relatively easy due to the multiple access points along the river. The river offers calm sections and fast-moving class 1 and class 2 rapids, providing a range of fishing environments.
