Deep Creek Waterfall Loop Trail (Juney Whank • Tom Branch • Indian Creek)

Trail Information

Located just outside Bryson City within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this 2.4-mile loop trail is one of the most popular and family-friendly hikes in the area. The route typically takes about 1 hour to complete and offers an easy, well-maintained path that connects three of Deep Creek’s most scenic waterfalls.

Starting from the Deep Creek Trailhead parking area, the trail immediately splits—take the left path to begin your loop toward Juney Whank Falls. This short spur climbs gently uphill through the forest before reaching a wooden footbridge directly in front of the 90-foot waterfall. Juney Whank Falls drops dramatically over a rock face just beyond the bridge, creating an up-close and immersive first view of the hike. After enjoying the falls, return back down the spur and reconnect with the main loop trail.

From here, turn left and continue along the main Deep Creek Trail. The path remains wide and easy, following the creek with only minor elevation changes. Along the way, you’ll pass shaded forest sections and occasional creek crossings before reaching Tom Branch Falls. This 80-foot waterfall flows directly across the creek from the trail, with several benches positioned nearby for resting and taking in the view.

Continuing another 0.3 miles down the loop, the trail leads to Indian Creek Falls. A short spur trail branches off to the left, dropping you down to the base of this 45-foot cascade. Unlike the taller drops earlier in the hike, Indian Creek Falls spreads out over rock in a wide, flowing slide-like shape, offering a different perspective and a quieter, tucked-away feel. From here, you can return via the loop to complete the hike.
