Take a break from the boat and explore the area by car. Start your day at the Fingerlake Recreation Area for a refreshing swim.

From there, drive along the scenic “Hellbender” (US 28 North), where you’ll catch incredible views of the lake as the road winds through the mountains.

Make your way to Fontana Dam—the tallest dam in the Eastern U.S. You can walk or drive across it (it’s also part of the Appalachian Trail), offering sweeping views of both the lake and surrounding mountains. Don’t miss the visitor center, where you’ll find fascinating historical exhibits.
