Deep Creek Trail to Tom Branch & Indian Creek Falls

Trail Information

Starting from the Deep Creek Trailhead just outside of Bryson City in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this hike begins on a wide, easy path that closely follows alongside Deep Creek. Early on, you’ll cross small footbridges and pass sections where the creek gently flows beside the trail, setting a peaceful tone for the walk.

About 0.3 miles in, you’ll reach Tom Branch Falls, an 80-foot waterfall cascading down the opposite bank. A footbridge and several benches are positioned here, offering a perfect spot to pause, take photos, and enjoy the view.

Continuing along Deep Creek Trail for another half mile, the path remains smooth and family-friendly as it winds through the forest. You’ll then turn right onto Indian Creek Trail, where the terrain becomes slightly narrower. After a short 0.1-mile walk, a spur trail on the left leads down to Indian Creek Falls. This 45-foot waterfall can be viewed up close from the base, and from above, it takes on a unique, waterslide-like appearance.

Beyond this point, the trail system continues deeper into the forest, eventually blending into Martins Gap Trail for those looking to extend their hike. Along the way, you’ll encounter additional creek crossings, quiet wooded stretches, and plenty of spots to step off the trail and enjoy the water.
