This is a popular trail for trail running, backpacking, camping, and fishing. This 33-mile point to point trail stretches from the Road to Nowhere tunnel to Fontana Dam. It is considered a challenging route if you are planning on traversing the entire trail, as it will take multiple days to complete. The trail can also be accessed from Fontana Dam.
For most people, it can be a leisurely stroll for a mile or two after walking through the Road to Nowhere Tunnel as an out and back trail. Views of Fontana Lake are not abundant here, but there are offshoots on this trail that lead to backcounty campsites (which require a permit) that do have a view of the lake.
